The hand checking thing is true, as well as grabbing jerseys. I've seen it first hand. Defense is played with your feet as any good coach will profess. The trick to beating Gate City is getting them out of what they do best, Pressing. The try to wear you down with substitution and dictating tempo. Varying zone defenses with some man, limiting turnovers, and taking care of the basketball is the formula for hanging with Gate City. I believe Council beat them a couple of years ago in the region playing zone and slowing the game down. LPD teams can't match their depth. If you let them out early, it will be a long night. Once you get behind, you can no longer play zone.

Veritas, that's a no-brainer. But for a team to get to the line more than 3-6x as much as the other team, something's got to give there...I can understand twice as much as being aggressive, but when you shoot 6 times the FT's in one game as the other team, there's some bias being applied. That's my point.

#1 for you guys pushed Andrew after the play. That's what was called. The refs did screw up that you guys should have gotten the 1-1 for the offensive foul on the screen from Pate (which was a defensive foul that was missed...last I checked you run into a guy who's setting a screen and knock him down that's a foul on you). The T wasn't the problem though. You'd better thank your lucky stars of a few things concerning that:

1) Andrew missed both technical FT's.
2) That Scotty & #1's protesting right in the official's face didn't garner another technical foul.
3) You guys got the ball back and scored, so the technical's net effect for GC was 2 less FT attempts, but 2 points and no points for Coeburn. So actually, it ended up alright for you guys anyway b/c Coeburn didn't convert given the opportunity due to the ref's foul-up.

There's a new rule this year: All offensive fouls are called "Team Control". No free throws awarded, just like a "Player Control" foul has always been.

Okay, in that case, the technical happened post-possession for GC then. The foul on Pate was called, and at that moment, it was GC's ball. The technical came after the "Team Control" foul, which if you commit a technical post-possession, you give up 2 technical free throws and possession of the ball. Someone tell me I'm applying that rule correctly... If this is the case, then the officials got this one right on.

Hey Craziefather, at least the GC/Coeburn foul disparity wasn't as bad as it was for Bluefield tonight. Taken from the G-mans page:

One of our officials was at the game and as far as the result of what happened when the T occurred, the officials got it right. The illegal screen is an offensive foul which no free throws were supposed to be shot. The T on the GC player resulted in Coeburn getting the 2 free throws and then the ball. Any time that you have a foul and then a T, you do things in order of occurance. Twin Springs lost a game to Castlewood a few years ago when Coach Vermillion was there because a TS player was called for a foul, the teams sixth and then was T'd, which was their seventh team foul. The officials made a mistake and allowed CW to shoot 1 and 1 and then 2 for the T. That was not correct because the seventh foul was the T, so no 1 and 1 should have been shot. CW made both free throws and the game went into OT. If CW had missed one or both, then TS would have won in regulation. The officials did not cheat TS, they just made an honest mistake.

You know what's amusing on here... in the summer/fall, anyone can come on here and it's as if everyone throughout the entire southwestern part of this state knows EVERYTHING there is to know about every existing player, every potential player, every coach and what they talk about at every practice... and yet, during the winter, no one seems to know anything about what's happening. lol...

Children, keep wondering about Tyler Parks and when he's going to return to play... but I can assure you he has never been late for any practice, that he's a honor role student, and that he's one of the nicest young men anyone would ever have the honor to know.

But please, keep digging and hoping someone will tell you anything at all about any of our players so you can turn it around and use to your advantage and somehow stroke your egos...

And besides, everyone knows that the opinion they have of the way each event is called is always determined by the side of the court/stadium/field you're sitting on. It's always been that way, and probably always will be.

The T on the GC player resulted in Coeburn getting the 2 free throws and then the ball.

I felt the T was given to the wrong player, considering the Coeburn player was the one who turn his head completely around and made a comment to the GC player. Then GC player said OK and that was when the T came in play. I thought good call but then to my dis-beleaf it was called for Coeburn.

Hey aoaofficial what is the official call when a players hand goes up and through the basket and knocks the ball out? Because a no call was what GC got.

Everybody keeps bring up fouls well my main problem was the no calls. One end of the floor players were getting beat to death and nothing,-- but on the other end moving pick was allowed with a nice charge at the end and GC would have their feet clearly planted the coeburn player would run over the GC player and nothing.

Coeburn has a good team and I am not dis respecting them and seem very competive and can compete with anyone. If i were from Coeburn I to would say the ref's did a outstanding Job.

There were some no calls and wrong calls that made alot of people look at each other in dis-beleaf.

This is pretty much a dead horse and this is my last post regarding this.

I say this much, the little dark headed ref was consistant, he was BUSH LEAGUE from start to finsh----IE Last 2 seconds.

At this point it doesn't matter anymore, but I still think that GC got a taste of what the rest of district puts up with when playing GC, the Refs let the hand checks and pushing go on for both teams, and they let 'em beat on each other....


and by the way no ref in the world will call a charge when the defender is standing under the cylinder, if your that low in the paint there are no charges called....
